The Abbey of the Genesee
3258 River Rd., Piffard, NY 14533
We welcome visitors to join the community for liturgical prayer in the Abbey Church or to spend time in quiet solitary prayer. A porter is available throughout the day to provide assistance and answer questions. The Church and reception room are open from 3:15 AM until 8:00 PM. For the times for Mass and Liturgy of the Hours throughout the day see our Liturgical Schedule page.
The reception room provides a quiet place to rest and reflect for a time. The grounds in front of the abbey provide a quiet and peaceful setting for quiet walking and sitting.
Because we are a cloistered monastery, there are no tours of the abbey and the bakery is closed to tours because of legal restrictions. We have a meeting room, Merton Hall, where we are able to welcome groups for a talk on monastic life and show a short video tour of the monastery. In keeping with our monastic schedule we are normally able to receive groups as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday in the morning anytime between 10:00 and 12:00 and in the afternoon between 2:30 and 5:30. Because of the size of Merton Hall groups are limited to approximately 40. NOTE: ADVANCE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED FOR GROUPS VISITING MERTON HALL. TO MAKE A RESERVATION CONTACT BR. ANTHONY (585) 243-0660 EXT 19; EMAIL: GROUP VISIT. WE CANNOT RECEIVE GROUPS ON SATURDAYS OR SUNDAYS.
The morning groups are able to attend mid-day prayer with the monastic community in the guest area of the church at 12:00 until 12:15. The afternoon groups may attend Vespers at 5:30 until 5:30
We also have facilities for men or women wishing to make a quiet, monastic retreat. For information on making individual or group retreats visit our retreats page.
