25th Tuesday in Ordinary Time
“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it”. Christ was speaking to everyone, of course, but according to Pope Francis, he was speaking in a special way to the monks and nuns of our Order. In his address last Saturday to the General Chapter, the pope said: “I urge you to give great importance to meditation on the Word of God, especially the lectio divina, which is a source of prayer and school of contemplation.”
The Cistercian Fathers lived the Bible, thought and spoke by the Bible. If we set out to learn from them, we soon understand that the Word of God, read and heard, always leads to the living Person of the Word. We could even say that, for the Cistercian Fathers, the Bible is Christ, for every word of it brings us into his real presence.
