Final Session
This past Friday we had our fifth and final weekly session with Dr. Matthew Kuhner. And a lively session it was. Dr. Kuhner is Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry in Rochester, NY. During the course of his talks he developed the topic of Mary as Figure, Archetype and Eschatological Fulfillment of the Church; Towards a Marian Ecclesiology. Speaking to Cistercians especially devoted to Marian Spirituality his talks stimulated a good deal of discussion and questions. We are grateful for his time with us and look forward to future encounters.

AUTUMN IN THE BACK YARD                                     AUTUMN IN THE ZEN GARDEN

Hardly a day goes by that we don’t learn from the news media of another murder. We are appalled at these acts and feel quite self-righteous before God in comparison to those committing the murder.

This is the kind of righteousness that characterized the Pharisees and the scribes. Jesus said that unless our righteousness exceeded that of the scribes and Pharisees we would never enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:20). He was telling us that being right with the Lord does not depend solely on refraining from acts prohibited by the law, but on the condition of our hearts in our relationships with our neighbors and with God.
