ABBEY NEWS
Updating
This past week our specialty bakery took a couple of giant steps forward. To begin with a new addition to our line of hand baked biscotti, Lemon Ginger with Walnuts, has been added to our line of Anise Lemon, Blueberry Lemon, Cranberry Orange & Dark Chocolate. As an introductory offer each variety is now on sale on line for $5.99 down from $7.99.
At the same time the specialty bakery went on line with its spanking new web site listing all of the products currently available. You will find the home page and on-line shopping page at Monks’ Specialty Bakery. These items along with several others are also available in our bread store here at the Abbey.
A major step forward is the addition of a new hi-efficiency bread baking oven that will reduce both baking time and labor. Put into operation this past Friday is a new 724 Revent Double Rack Gas Oven. Included among its features are a high volume steam injection system and rotating racks for improved and uniform baking. It boasts of 88% steam efficiency. Big improvements over our older, second hand oven.
LECTIO NOTEBOOK
A spiritual life requires discipline because we need to learn to listen to God, who constantly speaks but whom we seldom hear. When, however, we learn to listen, our lives become obedient lives. The word “obedient” comes from the word audire, which means “listening”.
A spiritual discipline is necessary in order to move slowly from an absurd to an obedient life, from a life filled with noisy worries to a life in which there is some free inner space where we can listen to our God and follow God’s guidance. Jesus’ life was a life of obedience. He was always listening to the Father, always attentive to his voice, always alert for his directions. Jesus was ‘all ear.’
That is true prayer: being all ear for God. The core of all prayer is indeed listening, obediently standing in the presence of God.
