Wednesday the 3rd Week of Advent
Isaiah 45: 6c-8, 18, 21c-25, Luke 7:18b-23
He’s Coming Soon, Thoro Harris
(Refrain) He’s coming soon, He’s coming soon,
With joy we welcome His returning;
It may be morn; it may be night or noon–
We know He’s coming soon.
Who is he whose coming the world is awaiting? Who is he for whom the human heart is longing? The prophet Isaiah gives us the answer, It is the Lord, the creator of the universe and the redeemer of the human race. Nothing exists without him. He is the source of all that is true, holy, and good. He is the comfort of those who need a redeemer. The threat of COVID and the senseless violence around us confirms our feeling that things are not the way they should be. We need a maiden willing to believe God’s word. We need shepherds keeping watch by night to see the coming light. We need Christ to be born anew in us.
(Verse I )In these, the closing days of time,
What joy the glorious hope affords,
That soon–oh, wondrous truth sublime!
He shall reign, King of kings and Lord of lords
We are the people who today walk in darkness. Not only do we walk in darkness, but we have also drawn the darkness into the depths of our beings. Granted, the pandemic has made us aware of the darkness, but it did not cause it. This darkness in our hearts manifests itself in bigotry, harassment, abuse, and hatred. This darkness blinds us to the benefits God offers us through one another. As we continue our Advent journey, we need to open ourselves to the Light of the World who alone can dispel our darkness. God is faithful in all his works. Let us turn his promises into prayers, asking him to establish his kingdom in us. It is in the secret of our heart God can enter the world. In the secret of our hearts, we can find ourselves united to one another.
(Verse II)The signs around–in earth and air,
Or painted on the starlit sky,
God’s faithful witnesses declare
That the coming of the Savior draweth nigh.
The Word became Flesh because of the Father’s boundless love for the world. Because it is in him that we live and move and have our being, each of us has a mission to accomplish. Advent is a time for us to throw open the windows of our hearts so that the Light of the world can enlighten our darkness. In his light, we will see and treat ourselves, our brothers, and our sisters as the Father sees and treats us. The Light of Christ has come into the world. May he transform us into vessels of light.
(Refrain) He’s coming soon, He’s coming soon,
With joy we welcome His returning;
It may be morn; it may be night or noon–
We know He’s coming soon.
