Friday the 5th Week of Easter
Acts 15: 22 – 31; Ps 57; John 15: 12 – 17
In the Gospel the Lord’s very first words are a self-revelation of His Sacred Heart, of His most holy mind and soul; He said, “This is My commandment…love one another as I love you” – not this is A commandment – rather MY commandment – I believe He would say:It comes from My very being.
It comes into Me from the Father because I can only do what I see the Father going.
It comes to Me from the Divine Spirit – the eternal bond I have with My Father.
“Love one another as I love you” – then Jesus became very specific about this love:
“No one has greater love than this to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
And Jesus did exactly this. He did it once and for all time. His greater love is the Eternal Now – His love never loses its force, its power to save, to lift up , to heal, to forgive – Never! His greater love is never an act in the distant past
– it is always now, always present because He is the “I AM”.
Jesus tells His apostles and us: “In My love for you, you are not slaves, you are friends, I have chosen you” so “Love another as I love you” – be seen as Mine, live as My other self!
To choose Christ is to say ‘yes’ to this command and we have chosen for Him. Our choices reveal this in many ways and the most clear, most obvious is when we receive Him in the Holy Eucharist – in that sacred act we are seen as His … friends not slave.
