Fans of Thomas Merton will be familiar with his fellow monk and secretary for many years, Br. Patrick Hart. Word from Gethsemani is that Br. Patrick passed away early in the morning of February 22nd. He was 93 years of age and in monastic vows vows for 64 years. You’ll find a full report on Gethsemani’s web page. May the Lord grant him the fullness of eternal life!
Coming And Going
On Wednesday of this week we expect the return of Abbot Gerard from the regional meeting at Mepkin Abbey. Before his return Fr. John Denburger will leave this afternoon to give our Benedictine Brothers of Mt. Savior, NY near Elmira, their annual retreat. He is due to return Saturday, March 2nd.
The Word of God tells us the amazing news that a definite acquittal exists for human beings; it is not just a very wonderful but unattainable legend. Jesus has destroyed the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross (Colossians 2:14).
He has completely destroyed it. There is …now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Paul proclaims (Romans 8:1). No condemnation! Of any kind! For those who believe in Christ Jesus!
