ABBEY NEWS
Almost But Not Quite
We had hoped we’d be able to begin the New Year with the completion of our renovation project including opening of the new, enlarged store and Merton Hall but didn’t quite make it. The major work is finished including heating, plumbing, most of the lighting. And beautifully well done interior stone columns. All that remains are the numerous details. But, as we know, the devil is in the details.
Hopefully within a month we will be able to move in even though some exterior work, including the stone columns, could not be completed due to the weather. Since Merton Hall remains unfinished we’ll have to do without our annual Christmas movie. That gives us something to look forward to for next year!
Gaudeamus (Let Us Rejoice)
As always seems to be the case, the Christmas Season is moving quickly along. Too quickly for some! We are grateful to the brethren who enhanced the celebration with their decorations and festive meals to say nothing of a joyous Christmas liturgy. Tonight (Sunday) is the day we will celebrate our annual Christmas talking supper with pizza donated by our dedicated and generous infirmary nursing staff. Much appreciated. Wishing each and every one of you a Blessed, Joyous and Healthy New Year!
Lectio Notebook
The Light had come into the world, and the darkness had not comprehended it. The darkness had not understood and had not responded, but it was incapable of extinguishing the Light. The Light lives on in the Eucharistic Jesus, in His Holy Spirit in the Community of the Church, in the hearts of all baptized faithful.
The Light that was born into our world on that first Christmas Eve lives on in the hearts of all who believe. It is the Light of Life, the Living Light. It lives on in all who, like the Holy Family at Nazareth, go on from day to day in the darkness of fidelity to duty, in the way of work and prayer, in obedience to God.
