ABBEY NEWS
Ask And You Shall Receive (Mt.7:7)
Beginning tomorrow at the end of Vespers on Monday through Saturday we shall have a ten minute adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in silent prayer for vocations to the community. Those praying Vespers with us are invited to remain and join us in asking the Lord for this important intention.
Progress Report
As mentioned earlier (see March 25th) things are moving ahead with the renovation project of Merton Hall and the new store. The first step will be a bit of demolition of some existing walls, rearranging some rooms, etc. According to plan this will begin at the end of the month.
Consequently, we have to close Merton Hall until around the first of next year. This necessitates the cancellation of all reservations for group meetings from May 1st until next year.
NOTE: WE UNABLE TO RECEIVE GROUP VISITS FOR PRESENTATIONS SINCE MERTON HALL WILL BE CLOSED FOR MAJOR RENOVATIONS UNTIL AT LEAST JANUARY 2019. ALL RESERVATIONS FOR GROUPS HAVE TO BE CANCELLED UNTIL THEN.
THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO ABBEY CHURCH AND BREAD STORE WILL REMAIN OPEN.
News From Our Farm Manager
Dear Friends,
We are undertaking another exciting new venture this summer-growing an organic garden! We have 34 varieties of vegetables being planted in our micro green studio this week. We’ll be transplanting them to the garden behind the Bethlehem retreat house and plan to start harvesting in June. If you are interested in purchasing a half or full produce share please contact Adam for details at farm@geneseeabbey.org
God Bless,
Operations Manager
Lectio Notebook
The Christian faith simply and majestically tells us that death does exist, that it is the biggest of our problems, but that Christ defeated it! A very decisive human event took place, and human death is no longer the same. In faith we are given the incredible news about something that only the coming of God himself on earth could bring about.
Death has lost its sting, like a serpent whose poison can only anesthetize its victim for a short time but cannot kill him. O death, where is they sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:54, 55).
