Short and Hopefully Sweet
Things have been a bit busier than usual due to extra bakery work, the crashing & reprogramming of our voice mail system (some of the brother's extensions have had to be changed) among other things, so our news updates may be somewhat more abbreviated and sporadic for awhile. When times are busy we all try to remember that:

The most important thing in life
is to keep the most important thing in life
the most important thing in life.

And, of course, one of the more important things in our way of life is praying the Divine Office to which, according to St. Benedict, nothing is to be preferred (cf RB43:3).

Rye Bread, R.I.P.
Much to our disappointment and that of many of our bread store customers we've had to discontinue baking our popular, delicious Genesee Rye. At least for the time being. We hope to be able to rearrange things so that sometime in the future we can resume baking it.

In House Retreatants
A couple of weeks ago we were pleased to welcome Archbishop Thomas Collins in our midst for his personal retreat. This past week we were equally glad to have Brothers Dismas & Justin, CFR for their retreat in preparation for making solemn vows next Sunday.

New Website
The Order's official website has been totally renovated and updated. It is chuck full of all sorts of news and information about the Order that will be of interest to many. It is not completely finished but well enough along to merit a visit. You'll find it at OCSO Web Site.

Resurrected Website In The Making
At the last USA Regional Meeting it was decided to resurrect the defunct website for the USA Region. For the past few months the new Regional Secretary, Fr. Alberic Farbolin of New Melleray and his team, have been hard at work bringing it to life. Hopefully by early August it should be up and running. Stay tuned. . .

Lectio Notebook

Love is truly the universal solution. It is difficult to establish the best thing to do in every single case: whether to keep silent or to speak out, to let things take their course or to correct someone. But if you have love, whatever you do will be right, because love can cause no harm to your neighbor (Romans 13:10).

In this sense, St. Augustine used to say: love and then do what you will. This short rule is given to you once and for all: love and do what you will.

If you keep silent, do so out of love; if you speak, do so out of love; if you correct someone, do so out of love; if you forgive, do so out of love. Let the root of love be in you, because only good can come from this root.

At times this sentence has been held in suspicion as being rather dangerous. After all, isn't this the usual reason young people put forward to justify every kind of sexual misbehavior? But St. Augustine is speaking of true love, not of egoism in disguise.
