ABBEY NEWS
Genesee Ordo
Every now and again folks who pray the Liturgy of the Hours, either all or in part, ask if the order of the liturgy we use here at Genesee is available so they can join with us celebrating the various offices according to our calendar for the sanctoral and temporal cycles. Up till now the answer was in the negative but as of this week our Ordo, arranged by our liturgist, Fr. Justin, has been posted on the Order's web site. If you are interested you will find it at Genesee Ordo - 2012.
In Time For Christmas
As of December 8th our on-line Monks' Bread store has moved into new 'web site quarters' as it were. You'll find the same quality items available but in a shiny, bright new setting that, in addition to offering a wider variety of products, should prove to be more user friendly. You are invited to browse about the store or do some Christmas shopping at New Monks' Bread Store. Watch for the grand opening slated for early next year. The older store will still be available for awhile at MonksBread.com if you are used to shopping there.
Speaking of "in time for Christmas" we're glad to have our Br. Isaac back home from the seminary for Christmas. He'll be with us until early January when he returns to Catholic U. for his final semester before ordination this summer. There's no doubt but that he's glad to be back.
Sneak Preview
Quite often visitors to the Abbey ask if they can have a tour of the bakery, especially when they encounter the aroma of freshly baked bread as they enter the bread store. Unfortunately, due to the stringent standards imposed by insurance and all the security, sanitary, etc. measures we have to comply with in order to receive certification, such tours are not possible.
But all is not lost. We are in the process of producing a video of our entire baking process that will provide a virtual tour of our operation. Two professional photographers, Duncan and Matthew, were here all morning this past Saturday filming the process from beginning to end. A good deal of work will be required before the video is complete but at least the work is in progress. We'll keep you posted. The photographers were photographed when they weren't looking!

The lowly, prayerful, humble, quiet waiting attitude exercised by our Lady during her own Advent exemplifies what all our Advent days should be like. In the midst of the noisy and often chatoic Christmas preparations we encounter in today's world, the example of the Mother of God stands apart from all that is false, haughty, glittering, selfish, or superficial. Mary's presence in our midst, radiating a serene beauty through her silence, her acceptance, and total submission to God's plan, speaks volumes to each and every one of us. Like our Lady, we must live our own submissions to the Lord with complete simplicity, humility, and trust in his plan for each of us. A Monastery Journey to Christmas |
